Theories on Online Dating

online dating

I came up to one of the artists to have an image edited but instead of asking him through online messenger, I went up to his cubicle to personally ask him. My mistake… the poor guy struggled to minimize one of his screens. Apparently, he was into online dating and he wasn’t too ecstatic to let us know about it. In awkward moments like these, I always put up my best “I didn’t see anything” face, but that didn’t really do anything to ease his flushed face and his hurt ego.

What I do not understand is that in spite of the fact that online dating sites have listed thousands and thousands of new members each month, people still try to hide the fact that they go to these dating sites to expand their social circle and hopefully end up in a romantic frenzy with other online dating service users like them. After all, a lot of things are less shameful if it were patronized by numbers, right? Here are some facts I’ve heard about people who are into online dating:

· Some people just can’t deal with a flat NO. Getting turned down online is less hurtful than the getting turned down face to face. At the same time, people are more comfortable saying what they feel so it’s easier to say “fuck you, fugly bitch” if ever you get turned down.

· Uncertainty is a good excuse to lie. In real life it’s hard to come up with a lie straight faced because the person you are lying to is bound to find out the real deal at one point At some degree, some dating site users lie about who they really are because in defense, they say that they’re not too sure whether the person they are talking to are lying as well. If things work out well, they can always say the truth. <!–[endif]–>

· You can’t photoshop yourself in real life. At one point of your life, you don’t have love handles or you didn’t sport this ridiculous hairstyle that you are wearing at the present. You can’t rationalize your repulsive look by saying “I once looked like Christian Slater” plainly because it’s stupid. Online, you can post a great picture of yourself and hope to God that you would be able to look like you are 25 by the time the two of you meet.

· You cannot be accused as a sexual predator so easily. Now why would I still have to explain that?
